Roku

Though it shares its name with a minor character from Avatar: The Last Airbender, the Roku is actually a digital video player that streams movies and TV shows directly from Netflix members’ “Watch Instantly” queues to their televisions. For a one-time fee of $99.99, the Roku enables customers to completely transform their television viewing habits. No longer must viewers limit themselves to learning about the lives of real housewives or how stuff is made. Instead, Roku owners can enjoy thousands of films and television shows from Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” library (users may also supplement the more limited options of this selection with purchases from Amazon On Demand). Finally, viewers can fully dedicate their time to watching films and television shows of generally higher quality than what is delivered through their costly cable boxes, all while freeing up their laptops for more blog-reading and porn-viewing (at least until Roku begins streaming WantedList). – Sharon Rosenfeld
