Creative Business Ventures

I was recently asked by a friend to pose as a clothing model for her new eBay business venture selling secondhand clothing. Her foray into the business world is part of a growing trend among young people who are now finding more creative ways to supplement their incomes, many of which have nothing to do with their actual careers. No, I’m not talking about the staple actresses/waitresses who infest LA or the escorts/advice columnists finding their way to the New York Post; instead, whether it’s the result of boredom at work, a desperate need for money in the midst of economic hardship, or a good old fashioned drug problem, average underemployed, understimulated twentysomethings are investing in ventures that are more interesting and could prove more lucrative than their day jobs. Inspired by the wild success of some, more and more individuals are encouraged to invest in their creative ideas by both the lag in the economy and the availability of online resources from PayPal to Etsy, which make selling new ventures easy and cheap. And while I myself may not experience any professional business success in the near future, my new eBay photos just might be enough to secure my personal success with Jakob Lodwick (see above photo). – Sharon Rosenfeld
