Pusswhip Banggang
The comedy duo Tim and Eric now perform regularly as Pusswhip Banggang, a parody of boomer rock bands that sounds like any band of old white guys you’ve heard at a small-town music festival. Dressed in garish shirts, occasionally sporting ludicrous stuffed crotches, and totally committed to every piece of banter, Tim and Eric (plus the band) run through a range of ridiculous “hits” like “Kiss Me Once, Shame on You, Kiss Me Twice (Let’s Party)”; “Petite Feet,” a song about men who have dainty feet; “Don’t Call Me Uncle,” which ends with everyone shouting the name of an uncle; and “Brownie Mountain.” In its most basic form, Pusswhip is like many Tim and Eric bits — it mocks the artistic dross that passes for culture in much of America. But they commit so fully to their characters and play the songs with such passion that Pusswhip becomes something much greater, a celebration of goofy energy in all its forms, even when it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. By the time Eric ends the show by thanking Tim for doing such a good job maintaining the band’s website, you’ve entered an area way beyond irony. No one should be ashamed of singing along to a recipe for jambalaya when it’s this much fun. – Eric Freeman
